Seems mean to only allow Purdue out of QLD when he’s playing fg for cows or rep duties, but it seems to be helping him turn into a fucken ripping player

QLD have won 1 U20/U19 games since it's "inception" in 2012. 1 in 10 including today, covid made them miss a few years.
NSW Men have won 4 out of 12 in the same period.
Is the NSW men's team as weak as the rest of the NSW population?. Are you wash as a NSWelshman once you turn 21?.
There needs to be an investigation into to weak success conversion rate.

u/BastingGecko3 Eastern Suburbs Roosters 10d ago
Having arguably the greatest Origin spine to ever play the game probably helps.
2
u/ScramblesTDB Brisbane Broncos 10d ago
That explains the first few years, that spine hasn't run out for half a decade.

My loose theory is this:
The NSW development system is more streamlined where clubs directly manage the development of players from mid teens where as in Queensland players are distributed between multiple feeders where NRL clubs don't necessarily have direct input in their development or the same facilities that NSW teens do.
This makes for typically faster development of NSW players at the expense of it being a more system based approach so players come through one specific clubs system and don't step outside it much hence why they don't mix as well in open origin.
Queensland players eventually catch up physically once they get into being directly trained by their NRL club but the slower development means they have more exposure to different systems and clubs so more easily vibe with their QLD teammates.
At the age of 19 the game is still largely a 'biggest strongest fastest' wins comp so the junior reps for NSW dominate.

They really spent all of about $50 on the shields for both the men's and womens U19s

Our family Christmas Cataan Championship Shield is on the same level as these one.
2
u/Simp_For_Orcas QLD Maroons 10d ago
man I'd love it if anyone I know was into Catan as much as I am. I play Catan Universe nearly everyday. Just got into 1500 ELO which I think is considered Masters.
actually maybe that's why they don't want to play
3
u/VasectoMyspace how’s ur defence 10d ago
I only play with the family when we have a gathering, but I’ve literally never lost. I made the trophy with my name on it a dozen times to shame them into playing better lol

Not surprising considering they refused to pay to have pocket refs

u/aatrain96 Parramatta Eels 10d ago
There is no reason M.Arthur can't be the 14 and spell Hands for 20 or minutes. He had a solid captains knock of a game.

u/MintB3rry Brisbane Broncos 10d ago
Very entertaining game. It's always cool to see these games and see potential future stars.
I just realised these young men were all born around the start of the QLD dynasty, so it's probably a real cathartic for those NSW boys to get the win tonight.

u/totalacehole North Queensland Cowboys 10d ago
As is tradition with any Origin loss, I'll be blaming that on the referees and/or bunker.
I won't be taking any further questions.
2
u/Zero_Focks St. George Illawarra Dargons 10d ago
Did you see that ludicrous display last night? The thing about the bunker is they always just walk it in.

u/pehpehsha2 Parramatta Eels 10d ago
Chevy Stewart best on ground for me. Really looked like a class above, great to see after his performance last year. Matt Arthur impressed. Some of those props for NSW look like they'll be gun in first grade in a few years. McLean looked he'll be playing full time first grade soon too
Leota for QLD, man it did not look good, feel bad for him. He had an awkwardness to him, maybe he's still getting used to his massive body or something

u/insty1 NSW Blues 10d ago
I've always said u19 boys and girls origin are the most important origin

Ben teo mistakes
Sam Stephenson is a right centre and plays him on the left. No set plays to shift to him either
defence was static and there wasn’t any movement to close the gap so the nsw halves had a field day picking the holes
attacking sets all relied on Coby black kicking at the end and trying to pin down the blues. Only works with aggressive defensive systems not the passive system teo ran
haven’t checked benches but seems like teos team was smaller in the middle. Power forward plays were non existent
1
u/PuzzleThyme Gold Coast Titans 10d ago
He made some poor selections too. A lot of guys sitting at home watching who should have really earned the right to be there tonight.
6
u/StevenuranSmithusamy España Toros 10d ago
Huen didn't kick at all. Dont know enough about his game but on first glance he doesn't seem like a proper 5/8 to me. Having a 2nd kicker wouldve definitely lowered the burden on Black
I actually thought Symonds and Armstrong were our 2 best forwards despite not being that big
8
u/shaker8989 Gold Coast Titans 10d ago
QLDs best was the fullback. Was super solid. QLD forwards started well but faded while NSW got better. Leota was officially worst on ground, poor kid will be super disappointed with his showing.
2
u/VasectoMyspace how’s ur defence 10d ago
I would say Black. His kicking game kept us in it.
7
u/shaker8989 Gold Coast Titans 10d ago
I think he was good, but I think he needed to take charge of the game down the stretch and he didn't really do it, will throw in the missed tackle on the winning try too.
He's got an unreal leg though. Perfect situation at Red Hill learning from Reynolds.
-4
u/VasectoMyspace how’s ur defence 10d ago
I don’t see how he makes the other 16 players stop coughing up the ball for no reason TBH
16
u/StevenuranSmithusamy España Toros 10d ago
Chevy, Woods, Black and Purdue all had rippers
Also very impressed with qlds headgear gang, they worked really hard in the first half
12
u/PeteOdeath Brisbane Broncos 10d ago
Good game. Congrats NSW. While I don’t think QLD deserved to win I do think that first try of ours wasn’t forward. Could have made a big difference.

u/diodosdszosxisdi NSW Blues 10d ago
we will give you that and we get the one that was denied by the bunker back and itd be same margin

For someone who hadn’t played for a few weeks and had been playing flegg so really wasn’t playing against this size of player he looked good. He and seve had n the top 30 next year which will really fast track there development.

u/thaakidd QLD Maroons 10d ago
Ehh try off the back of being marched up field wrongfully stings, but they just made too many errors trying to over play their hands. The crop of talent coming to first grade in the next few years is exciting though. What a time to be a rugba leeg fan. Kasey Badger making correct calls never, QLD forever.

9
u/shaker8989 Gold Coast Titans 10d ago
Genuinely cant believe the 1 out runs by QLD in those last 2 sets. You were gaining easy metres going wide and going nowhere up the centre most of the night. Had loads of overlaps missed down the stretch too. Teo needed to get someone out there and tell them to put it through the hands on every tackle.

u/ScramblesTDB Brisbane Broncos 10d ago

Overplayed his hand a little bit and played into NSW one-dimensional attack but I think they lacked a ball player in the 13 to shift the ball around. The NSW spine wasn't conducive to spreading the ball, it was very much 5 tackles, get to the kick.
