I will never understand why sexual assaults on minors get such low sentences it is absolute absurd

Makes me think that there are strong and powerfull people who are doing the same things and protecting each other from law.

Tell me something new, pls.

Normal Guy: copy/burns several dozen of PSX games; sells them for very little money -> 4 year prison

Rich Guy: tax-evasion 24 million €. 2 years sentence only 1 year in prison.

Same with Drugs, money laundaring,  Raping (catholic church) and other rich guy crimes.

What case is this a reference to?

Copy:

Its from a "commercial" in german cinema around one or two decades ago.

The spot starts with a mother and her two children singing happy birthday close to a jail window. After that they turn to go home. Child:" Mommy, when does father come home?" Mother: "After singing happy birthday for him three more time."

It serves as warning and reminder that copying/burning movies and videogames can result up to 4 years in jail.

The rich guy with tax evasion: Uli HoeneS.

This maggot was warned by someone that investigation is planed against him, so he acused himself beforehand to get a better sentence. The liar originally only laid bare around 15 million of tax evasion, but they found more.

He was warned, so his self acusation was not genuing. He lied about the amount of taxes. He never said who else was involved, although it was very clear he couldnt do it by himself. He got a small 2 + 1/2 prison. He left prison after 1 year for good behaviour. If you are rich, it is easy to behave.

It seems like the Bullshit-subreddit, but I think it's around the corner r/pizzagatesomethingsomething.

It's fucking bull shit. They'll let out child molesters out of a cell because they are supposedly "rehabilitated". Theirs even chomos in Texas out on the streets, yet if you get caught with a weed cart in Texas, your treated like either a murderer, or a meth cooker. But in Europe? I thought Europe was supposed to be 10 to 20 ahead of us.

Many reasons

it was just ignored in the past

many of them are rich

and the west likes to pretend that forgiveness is inherently good

i heard that outside of the US prison sentences for those types of crimes are generally low and that US is just high on those sentences (smth like thta i heard from someone)

like for ex. UK women cant rape. It feels a lot of laws are generally just were never that long and US is just very strict on it or smth (as often i hear low sentences its from places that arent US and long sentences are usually from the US)

US cases notoriously get low charges as well. 3 or less years and they're usually out for most of the crimes you can watch Chris Hansen he's caught hundreds probably and they all had only a few years.

u/Terribletylenol 5d ago

Is there a single instance you're referring to in which the person was literally convicted of rape?

A lot of the Hansen stuff is "soliciting a minor" or lesser charges like that, not 3 rape convictions.

That wouldn't get you a light sentence ANYWHERE in the US.

People that end up with light charges usually just did plea deals and didn't end up with convictions of more serious crimes, so ofc they got lighter sentences.

In general tho, the US does not have a problem at all with giving low sentences to people.

Relatively speaking at least compared to most European countries

The US system generally emphasizes prison as a punishment more than other places.

We have the highest incarceration rate anywhere.

I don’t think that’s generally true at all. And yes women technically can’t commit rape in the UK, but that’s just because of the legal definition of the word rape. They can still be guilty of sexual assault which can carry an equally long sentence, so it’s just a matter of semantics really.

5

u/_LumberJAN_ 5d ago

They can carry an equally long sentence, but rarely do. Women can't get life sentence back where I'm from

u/HydreigonTheChild 5d ago

yes .. i heard of that they just get charged with sexual asault which is pretty much same sentence but public opinion on it isnt as bad compared to rape.

i mean, this is from people who prob have more knowledge on that stuff than me, and ive generally seen a bit of low sentences from other contries (idt people report it on news as much in the US which is prob why i guess i see it more often)

1

u/Linden_Lea_01 5d ago

Actually I just looked it up briefly and you’re right, it does seem like the US generally has much higher sentences for rape than European countries at least

4

u/Terribletylenol 5d ago

US sentencing is harsher across the board, so ofc that applies to rape and sexual assault.

1 year for a convicted child rapist sounds absolutely insane to me as a person living in the US.

The only time that happens here is when it's plea bargained down to a lesser charge, but this guy got 3 rape convictions and only got 4 years, served 1.

That could garner a life sentence here.

One of the few examples where "excessive" sentencing is a good thing.

u/zehnBlaubeeren 4d ago

Many European countries have shorter sentences in general than in the US. It's not even possible to sentence someone to 1000 years in prison in the Netherlands, there is a life sentence but otherwise it is max 30 years.

I've also heard ridiculously low sentences in the US for raping minors. It seems to be stricter for things like stealing or smoking weed.

Children don't vote, or have any significant bargain power.

Probably because there was no actual physical assault involved. Difference between consenting while being underaged, which isn't actual consent, and being physically forced. I'll be contacting our Olympic Committee about this though. I think it's concerning to have a convicted pedophile on out national team.
