Cauldron Boss is STUMPING me Gameplay

I’m completely new to MC dungeons, and I’ve been stuck on the soggy swamp boss for quite some time. Is there any tips for a newbie single-player bring this mf down?

I’ve learned that there’s a blind spot behind one of the huts where no one can reach me. I’m trying to narrow down the best armor and bow to use. I almost never manage to get any hits in. I’m on level 11. The player level suggested was 10. It just feels impossible on my own. What weapons actually work on the cauldron?

Any thoughts or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated 😎

I usually have two approaches to this fight depending on what I'm using

  • For melee combat, I stay close to the cauldron for some hits, duck out when he spawns fire, and just watch when and where he places his slime buddies.
  • For crossbow/bow range, I usually camp in the bottom-ish area of the arena. It's a nice spot for getting shots while keeping distance/protecting yourself from his slimes.

The cauldron is definitely one of the more annoying bosses, especially on higher difficulties. I feel like the best approach is to zone him depending on your build

I think my weapons/armor probably aren’t powerful enough. When I get attacked I die so fast it’s crazy. Im probably going to practice on less challenging bosses and wait until I get stronger. Thanks for your tips, they’re really helpful 😊

Cauldron can be a fight of attrition. You want Leeching, Radiance, or Life Steal (which is an armor perk). Because the boss has a lot of minions, Leeching and Guarding Strike on your melee are especially handy.

The mini slimes shoot constantly, which deal the most damage to you, so you wanna take them out fast. The mobs bounce towards the Cauldron after dying, which heal it. So you wanna be mindful of that. You wanna be built for mobbing since the biggest threat are the slimes and mobs, and the occasional fire that surrounds the Cauldron.

You can go behind the fence to block the slimes' shots and get some free Leeching kills without taking too many hits.

My advice: either find someone to help you clear it or skip it till you get some stronger gear to tackle it. The Cauldron is a difficult fight especially at the start of the game when you have no items. Luckily you can skip it and come back. Maybe give Pumpkin Pastures or Cacti Canyon a try first.

I’m so stubborn I get it in my head that I have to complete missions in the “correct” order. I will probably try Pumpkin Pastures since the aesthetic is so beautiful. That dang swamp is probably gonna sit on the back burner for a minute 😂 thanks for your help 😁

You are going to want to grab yourself a Shielding Totem artifact (or 2) walk right up to the boss and drop it. It blocks projectiles and is very helpful against other bosses. Be careful standing too close as the cauldron spawns a ring of fire every so often.

You can melee it until it drops fire around it. The additional enemies are fairly easy to run around. Just make sure you always have a path around them and to the Cauldron to hit it again.

There are a few different approaches you can go with at that level. Depending on the DLCs you have will also depend on the weapon options you have. I've been able to take the cauldron down with at that level:

-a double axe mushroom combo and some boots to speed away.

-satchel of elements and the boots to speed away

It will ultimately come down to what weapons/artifacts you are comfortable with, but I highly suggest high DPS to avoid the spawns.

Double axe is apocalypse exclusive

The uniques are, not the common ones. Common can he found anywhere

Nope. The double and its uniques are apocalypse exclusive. The axe is available in all difficulties

That's strange I have a new file with my brother we are still in default and he got a double are, mind you he got it from a villager trader if that makes any difference

You can still snag one from the tower or the shops (if memory serves me right). It's a bit of luck to get one though.

I don’t know about the tower, but the villager merchants can’t sell difficulty-exclusive gear.

Usually take it out with ranged attacks. Look for a heavy hitting bow or crossbow. You need to be able to sustain a decent damage rate because it heals itself.

If you have one. A love medallion can be helpful to deal with the fray around the cauldron.

If you melee, hit and run. Void strike plus poison or fire and any artifact with high damage.

Take it in stages. I'm new and found it tough at first. There's a place up top where you can kind of hide and wait for your potion to recharge. So rush in do some damage to the cauldron and then run away as you heal and wait for it to recharge. There may be one or two baddies that follow you but you can kill them quickly. It's a marathon not a sprint this fight.

This boss is always a nuisance for my wife and I. We usually just end up saving arrows throughout the level and then unleashing everything on the boss.

Usually melts it.

I used a souls build, lighting staff and corrupted beacon and a healing totem. being able to run in, cast lightning, and run back out is helpful. once i got it unlocked, using void strike made it so much faster, too, though i'm not sure it's available to you yet.
