Thorns is bad because mobs generally have way more health than players do, so the damage is insignificant. u/ShinkuNY can back me up on this.

1. Imagine asking someone irrelevant to back you up (oh wait you don't have to).
2. Extra damage in any way Is key, especially in situations where dealing damage is hard such as with ranged mobs in packs.
3. I said it was good, not amazing or anything, looking back now multi-roll would probably be a better choice.
